As APPs, many of us start our clinical genetics role with little experience in the field, and often peer guidance is limited within our institutions. Many new clinical genetics APPs describe a feeling of isolation as they begin their career. CGAPP members are offered a peer mentorship program, in an effort to support, educate, and mentor clinical genetics APPs whether they are new to the field or well established in their genetics career. The mentorship program is a great opportunity to engage with your peers around the country, learn from an experienced clinical genetics APP, and grow in your role.

The mentorship program is offered annually, with plan for bi-annual offerings in the future. The 2025 mentorship program is currently underway. We will elicit both mentors and mentees for the 2026 program starting in fall of 2025. Interested members will be asked to provide basic information regarding their experience and interests in the program. With this information, CGAPP creates one on one and small group mentorship pairings. Once pairings are established and introduced to one another, CGAPP provides limited guidance and oversight of the mentorship program. While the goals and content covered through mentorship meetings is dependent upon the needs and expertise of the mentors and mentees.
